What is known today as Caribbean Ministries Association began in the late 1980's as a series of short-term mission trips from Woodland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Lighthouse Baptist Church in the settlement of James Cistern in Eleuthera, Bahamas. After experiencing first hand some of the struggles of Lighthouse Baptist believers, the church elders began asking themselves what additional help might be given.

Over the course of the next decade, the concept behind Eleuthera Bible Training Center (EBTC) took shape, culminating with a grand opening in the spring of 2001. In 2004, EBTC graduated its first class of pastors: 10 bi-vocational men from the island who persevered through 500 hours of coursework in biblical studies. Today each one testifies of how much better equipped he is to shepherd the people of God in Eleuthera.

Additionally, many individuals and groups have evangelized, made significant discipleship efforts, and numerous short-term mission teams have served (and continue to serve) in ministry. These multi-facited avenues of ministry include Vacation Bible schools, drama, construction projects, sports evangelism, and more.

Below is the timeline which describes God's faithful working in and through Caribbean Ministries Association to establish a Bible training center in Eleuthera.

1987 - Woodland Park Baptist Church made its first trip to Eleuthera, and recommended the island as an excellent place for short-term mission trips. For the next four years young people from WPBC worked with a local church in James Cistern.

1993 - WPBC returned to Eleuthera with a group of 58, led by Pastor David Thompson. The group ministered in 10 different settlements and schools, and discovered the people’s need for understanding and applying the Scriptures, as well as gaining a grasp of the security of their salvation in Christ.

1994 - WPBC received approval from the government of the Bahamas to purchase a seven-acre plot of land in James Cistern. By November God had provided funds to close on the property, building plans were approved, and the building permit obtained.

1995 - Ground was broken for Eleuthera Bible Training Center. The vision of the ministry - to train in the principles of study and delivery of the Word of God - was expanded to include other islands. During the spring and summer, short-term mission teams began regular visits to build and minister with EBTC.

1997 - EBTC shared its vision with many pastors from surrounding islands and found an enthusiastic response. The vision was clarified into a four-fold focus: to train pastors and church leaders, lay people, youth, and to provide relevant literature.

2001 - March: EBTC received its first full time missionary couple - Paul and Lisa Voss. May: A dedication ceremony was held at the training center to celebrate the completion of the building and the beginning of the training ministry.

2002 - The land was cleared on the hill behind the training center and a new staff and guest house was begun.

2004 - May: EBTC graduated its first class of church leaders - 10 men who gave testimony of God’s awesome work in their lives through this training process. September: A new cycle of classes began with 14 additional church leaders from several different denominations.

2005 - July: CMA became legally incorporated in the United States as a 503 c (3) non-profit organization. CMA saw God's blessing of expansion into Nicaragua as Carl and Kathy Most joined the mission.
